RALEIGH, NC – SEPTEMBER 2004 –
Weller®, a Cooper Hand Tools brand, has introduced its
WHA3000PS hot air system for demanding PCB rework operations.
The system includes a WHA3000P 700 watt hot air station with
built-in pump, a WBH3000S circuit board holder with pivoting
stand, and a WHP3000 heating plate.
System Components Combine to Guarantee Precise, Repeatable
Processes
The WHA3000P 700 watt hot air station features advanced digital
control technology for maximum process control and user-friendly
operation. The powerful variable speed controlled turbine
generates an air volume of up to 50 liters/min. An ion trap
directs ESD safe hot air at the component. Process repeatability
is ensured with memory space to store up to 10 thermal profiles.
The WBH3000S circuit board holder has a pivoting
stand for the HAP3000 hot air pencil. Circuit boards up to
310 mm x 320 mm can be accommodated. The circuit board holder
ensures that the hot air pencil is vertical to the printed
circuit board under repair and the pivoting stand allows the
hot air pencil to be raised and lowered precisely onto the
component being reworked.
The WPH3000 heating plate has a total heated
area of 120 mm x 190 mm with three ceramic elements. The plate
preheats the circuit board under repair to reduce the possibility
of thermal damage. Set temperatures and actual temperatures
are digitally displayed.
An external sensor can be connected to display
actual temperature at specific areas of the circuit under
repair. The hot plate can be controlled from its own internal
control system or integrated into the control system of the
WHA3000P/V.
According to Glenn Schindo, Weller brand manager,
the control technology used in Weller hot air equipment guarantees
precise and repeatable processes when soldering or desoldering
SMD components. “This precise control,” Schindo
says, “is further enhanced by the application of Weller
patented nozzle technology.”
Schindo says that whether operators are replacing
SMD components with external solder connections or other types
of components such as SMT bases or PGAs, this equipment provides
the solution to rework problems.
The new system is available through electronics
production supply distribution and catalog houses. Pricing
for the system is expected to be approximately $4,600 to $4,900.
